Of Violins and Unhurried Mornings

The day before a performance at Shibumi has its own quiet rhythm. The whole school comes together to prepare. Palm leaves are folded into little birds that sway gently in the breeze. Strings are stretched between window frames and corridors as decorations slowly find their place. There is the bustle of ladders being moved, hands reaching up to hang one more garland, last-minute calls to caterers, and conversations that weave in and out all day. Beneath it all is a shared sense of anticipation—a quiet excitement that something beautiful is about to unfold.

Tomorrow, the 8th of July, we have the joy of welcoming Vaibhav Ramani for a violin recital. Trained under the celebrated maestro Sri Kumaresh, he has performed alongside some of the country’s finest musicians. Yet what stays with us is not the list of concerts or accolades, but the invitation his music offers—to become quiet enough to truly listen.

Vaibhav is also a vegan, a choice that reflects a gentle attentiveness to life beyond the concert stage. There is something deeply moving when an artist’s way of living and their art seem to emerge from the same place of care.

In a world that is always asking us to hurry, music asks something different. It asks us to stay. To notice. To be fully present, if only for a little while.

We warmly welcome anyone who would like to spend their morning in the company of beautiful music and quiet attention.
